Steal the Words is an eco-horror short film set on the outskirts of a booming oil town near Midland, Texas, where an ex-oil baron is holed up in his run-down ranch. When secret packages arrive, he wrestles with a set of bizarre, horrific tasks to keep control of the situation at hand. “Steal the Words” is heavily inspired by Maki’s own journey of witnessing environmental destruction in the communities they lived in. Intentionally or not, there has been a realization of how these practices are directly connected to the control of women & their rights throughout history.
