Chasing Dragons

Chasing Dragons is a feature-length documentary following a breast cancer survivor team as they pursue gold at the 2027 International Dragon Boat World Championships.
In 2025, thirty-eight U.S. breast cancer athletes competed in the inaugural Breast Cancer Paddler Division at the world championships in Germany. The newly-formed team stunned the field, bringing home three silver and three bronze medals—missing gold by less than half a second.

In 2027, they return for the gold.

This is more than a comeback story. It is a powerful exploration of survivorship, identity, and the extraordinary capacity of women to rebuild themselves—physically and emotionally—after cancer. Survivorship is often framed as a medical milestone. Chasing Dragons reframes it as a lived, evolving experience.

Told through intimate cinéma vérité storytelling and cinematic sports coverage, Chasing Dragons weaves together two parallel journeys:

  • The deeply personal process of reclaiming identity after breast cancer—navigating scars, fear of recurrence, altered bodies, and the persistent question: Who am I now?
  • The rigorous selection and training process required to earn a place on Team USA’s 2027 Breast Cancer Paddler crew.

We follow athletes balancing careers, families, recovery, and relentless training. Early mornings on the water. Grueling gym sessions. Setbacks and breakthroughs. Moments of doubt—and moments of transcendence.

As individual journeys of survival intersect with the collective pursuit of excellence, the film builds toward a dramatic international showdown in Hong Kong—where the meaning of competition is redefined.

Our team is positioned to capture both the intimate vulnerability of survivorship and the scale, energy, and cinematic intensity of dragon boat racing:

  • Archival footage from Team USA’s 2025 historic debut
  • Longitudinal, character-driven filming throughout 2026–2027
  • Behind-the-scenes access to Team USA selection and training
  • Expert perspectives from oncologists, surgeons, coaches, and sports trainers
  • Comprehensive coverage of the 2027 World Championships
