DON’T FORGET TO LOOK FOR THE HOPE is a 30 minute experiment in memoir documentary filmmaking… it is bold and sometimes in your face with its powerful subject matter. It is the story of a combat Marine veteran’s first encounter with incarceration in jail…not prison. An experience that plays on him profoundly. The experience penetrates deep into all his personal battles with life off (and on) the battlefield and brakes down barriers that have haunted him since returning from five tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan with PTSD. Being an empath heightens the harshness of the jail experience for him, but ultimately enables him to understand a kind of enlightenment that moves him to a better place. It is a deeply personal story about love, hope, and connection that resonates with some of the most serious social justice issues of our time…it is an open heart in the middle of hell.
