Lightworkers is a feature documentary directed by acclaimed filmmaker Bobby Roth (Lost, Prison Break, Grey’s Anatomy) and produced in collaboration with Jesse Kane, Monica Valdes, and Nick Roth. The film is a mosaic of fifty diverse voices, each confronting a simple but urgent question: What can we do?
Through intimate interviews, archival materials, and first-person testimony, Lightworkers profiles extraordinary individuals who have faced injustice with courage and conscience. Among them are Peggy Preacely, a Freedom Rider who risked her life for civil rights; Holocaust survivor and artist Gabriella Karin, who teaches through memory and art; Miccosukee elder Betty Osceola, who defends the Everglades and sacred lands; and cultural figures such as Henry Winkler and Peter Coyote, whose artistry and advocacy have inspired millions. Their lives are vastly different, yet together they form a collective portrait of courage.
Shot with simplicity and honesty — one camera, natural light, and candid conversation — the film invites audiences into direct relationship with its subjects. Currently in late production and entering post, Lightworkers will premiere at international festivals before expanding into schools, community spaces, and broadcast. The impact strategy emphasizes intergenerational dialogue, accessibility, and educational partnerships, ensuring the stories resonate far beyond the screen.
