LA Kids: Voices From the Fire follows the resilience, vulnerability, and often overlooked perspective of kids who are being faced with the devastation of the recent LA Wildfires. What does “normal” mean to a generation that has never known stability? How do they see their future? As adults we can understand the logistics parents are having to confront – the mortgage, the insurance, the rebuild – but kids give us an unfiltered, honest, and refreshing view of the world around them. Through conversations with kids ages 6-12 who have been directly affected by the fires, we will explore their lives now — whether in temporary housing, dance classes, or other activities – showing the full extend of their experiences with footage of the destruction left behind. As filmmakers, we believe there’s so much to learn from this generation. Through their stories, we hope to better understand the world they’re inheriting, and the hope they carry into an uncertain future. This is the purpose of our film. In a time when every tragedy seems to divide us, children are the great unifier. The experience of childhood is universal, and through their stories, we can re-discover resilience, vulnerability, and hope.
